Racial abuse of players on social media- Is it getting worse or just more prevalent?
At the moment, it seems like after every game some player involved has been getting abuse on social media.(Thankfully from what I've seen none of ours have been on the receiving end, nor have any oppo players from our games)

Really sorry state of affairs, but has it always been this bad but was just never really publicised before, or is it getting worse then it used to be?

It's always been like this. Culture has shifted to make it a tempest in a teapot. Who honestly gives a shit what some faceless, fake account posts about you in the comments section? Yes racism is bad, but these mongs are attention seeking, and by highlighting it, you make it worse.

Don't read the comments section.

Don't feed the trolls.

People need to get out of the dark ages but some are just thick.

No time for racists and I'll call it out where I see it.

Not so much getting worse than its so easy to actually be able to message any old Tom, dick and Harry nowadays thanks to the evil social media.

Guessing it's easy to find who sent the message, so start hanging them and the rest will stop.

I mean it really is fucking weird anyway to feel the need to abuse someone online over something like a game of football, especially when they play for your team.

Bit like the oddball west ham cunts who sent Dean death threats. Absolutely bizarre keyboard warrior behaviour by people who probably can't punch their way out of a paper bag.

Re: Racial abuse of players on social media- Is it getting worse or just more prevalent?
The issue is that should a bloke be referred to as a 'black cunt', then the inference is that he is a cunt by virtue of being black, ergo more offensive than being a straight 'cunt'

Now that may or may not have been the intent, conscious or otherwise, but it is idiotic to say such without understanding the implication

That said, many a black 'celeb' will play the 'Niggaz' trope, then object to that being ridiculed for just that or using terms that they themselves freely do, along with a host of misogynistic and homophobic stuff, for which they are not criticised - double standards prevail in a singular direction

That said, social media is a Wurlitzer of lookatmeism and shitcunts - they deserve each other

Understood another Rangers player reckoned he heard him call Kamara 'a fucking monkey'.
Of course you wonder whether a team mate can 100% be a reliable witness.
That said the Czech player said he actually called him 'a fucking guy'.

I am guessing that load of old bollocks got laughed out of court.

I agree trundle

This isn’t a ‘John terry’ case where you can use a lip reader to see what’s said

There’s little proof other than hearsay and the Prague team totally denied it

They have accepted the decision without too much commotion though, which probably tells you something

The Daily Record says "taking in evidence from a variety of witnesses", so perhaps others did come forward in the end?

He had his hand over his mouth only he and the guy he abused would know what was said, unless someone in earshot heard it?

Won't what got said be on camera Lee? Even if it couldn't be heard, they may well have got a lip reader to see what had been said, has that not been done before?

"Slavia Prague's Ondrej Kudela has been banned for 10 matches after racially abusing Glen Kamara - with the Rangers midfielder suspended for three games."

Bit of a slippery slope (excuse the pun) this.

He 99.9% said something racist to provoke a reaction like that, but unless there's any evidence that I haven't seen, then they're just taking 1 word against another.

All these on-field/cheating incidents are click-bait/pundit talking points to the media companies and as they pay the piper, they call the tune.

Every now and again a fan will be nailed for racism to prove to the world that the authorities are "doing something to improve the game".

They will never support restricting players by asking them to follow both the law and spirit of the game.

Re: Racial abuse of players on social media- Is it getting worse or just more prevalent?
Whatever happened to the alleged racism incidents at Man City and Tottenham where the players were “directly abused”? There was the one at Chelsea where someone was identified and prosecuted which is right.

At City, they identified someone who said he was pulling his hands out of his pocket, rather than making an impression. At Spurs I believe no one was ever identified from video analysis or fans coming forward. Were either of these incidents progressed as they did make the front and back page headlines initially?

At West Ham, I don’t see racism. That’s not saying it’s not there, but I can’t recollect an incident in the last 10+ years watching West Ham. I also believe West Ham fans would self-police this and call out someone who was being racially abusive. On the other hand, at Chelsea there is a scummy atmosphere as there is little self-policing. Look at the John Terry incident, really sets a great example of the club.

What I do see every week though is the blatant cheating that goes on by the players. Son at the weekend is a prime example. When will the game tackle this, they could immediately make a difference if they chose to?

If players blatantly cheat, I have little respect for them as a whole and find it hard to accept their complaints in general. In the 89th minute I would have loved someone to have kicked Son 6 foot in the air and walked off without looking at the referee, accepting the red card and claiming that’s what the cheat deserved.

The game has to police itself in some way if they are expecting fans to change. The 4 players at Leicester who attended the covid party, Rodgers was right to call them out. More needs to be done to set the right example consistently as these guys are role models.

Whilst the players are waiting on Google, Facebook etc sharpening up their algorithms to prevent the racist posts, stop cheating, set an example. Racism on social media won’t go away immediately if ever. But blatant cheating can stop tomorrow, it’s only a small group who are responsible for it, why can’t the majority pull them up? If we are to police racism, why can’t they police cheating?

Rugby was my main playing sport and I remember a pre training meeting where the referee’s society rep came down to report that he had received too many complaints from his referees about our back chat during games. He was instructing his referees to immediately penalise us starting with the next game if we continued. It stopped straight away.

Give the players each an account on here then let loose the black font anons. That'll shape'em up for the real world of social media.

In the good old days you could shout cunt at them and they'd never hear it, of if they did their ego would just presume you were aiming at someone else.

But now with Twitter and other social media you can actually call them a cunt personally and explain why. The poor players dont like it as they've grown up as pampered brats, so whinge about it to the media.

No Comma. We do get it but you are right. We do need to stop using racial stereotypes even to sweaty socks, thick Micks and sheep shaggers in case we upset them.

How is it people don’t get this. When abusing people just don’t mention their colour or racial characteristics.

There is plenty of scope for abuse so use it and be imaginative.

As for what John Terry said there is no excuse for it at all.

There is a certain truth in that.

Which is why I support Wilfred Zaha's view that he isn't going to kneel but will stand upright and be proud of who he is.
Always used to make me laugh when you'd hear of some fat redneck racially abusing Muhammed Ali ... basically saying Ali is inferior. The good looking, articulate, multi millionaire who was heavyweight boxing champ of the world.

Re: Racial abuse of players on social media- Is it getting worse or just more prevalent?
For me there is acceptable racial abuse and the unacceptable kind political correctness drags into the public debate.

For example, calling someone a sweaty sock or sheep shagger is acceptable for British jokes on racial stereotypes.

When I looked again at the comments that John Terry said about Anton Ferdinand which was apparently "Fucking black cunt" I thought, yes he's fucking black and a bit of a cunt so what's the problem?

The problem is he took exception to being called black in a high tension, competitive moment. Would a Scotsman have complained of racial abuse if he'd been called a "fucking sweaty sock cunt" or a Welshman a "fucking sheep shagging cunt"? Probably would never happen because the Scots and Welsh are proud of their origins as are the English.

Perhaps it might be better for black people to feel better about being black and have thicker skins? I don't suppose that will ever happen because the politically correct blame culture now sweeps across Britain.
